Why Berg?

The Berg Way

The Berg way is built on simple principles. We find talented and experienced people, trust them with responsibility, work hard, keep safety ahead of everything we do, and teach those with less experience. We build with confidence but aren’t ones to be boastful. Every project is another chance to prove ourselves, be creative, and create a great product and experience for the client.

EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH A SOLID FOUNDATION

Scott Manning is our Staff Geologist and Director of Geotechnology. As we continue to grow and expand, having Scott’s expertise is invaluable to both our team and our clients since nothing lasts without a solid foundation. Scott has a BA in Geology from the University of Florida, a BS in Computer Science from Alvernia University, an AA in Anthropology from RACC, and many years of practical experience in the field.

With over two decades in the industry, Scott utilizes his background in geology to specialize in the materials that need to be moved, and his background in computer science to specialize in the technology used to move those materials.

Since being with Berg, Scott has introduced the technology called seismic refraction– using soundwaves to look below the surface of the earth – helping us to determine the subsurface density and giving us an idea of the types of materials our team will need to move. With this, it allows our team to evaluate site conditions, such as soil and rock characteristics, and recommend the most cost-effective and time saving solutions for every project.

Our technical expertise, ability to handle a variety of infrastructure, and can-do attitude in embracing every challenge, Berg Construction has built industry relationships that add value to every project we take on.

Technology

We know our team can build even better with the right technology. Our estimators and field managers have HCSS software to help them accurately bid and manage projects. A majority of our fleet has intelligent machine control and GPS technology. Drones powered by Propeller accurately map and track quantities for earthmoving projects. While implementing tech is often a long-term investment, we view it as the only way forward.

Brad Iezzi, Division Manager, Commercial

"The one thing that our management drives home is that there is no situation where it's OK to cut corners on safety or quality to finish something sooner. It's also about putting the right people in supervisory positions that genuinely care about the safety of their people and getting them home safe every day."

Everything we do starts with safety.

We provide all the tools and training needed to work safely. If someone doesn’t have what they need, we stop until we can get it for them. We empower everyone to make smart, measured, and safe decisions. We speak up when we see something unsafe. We make a personal commitment to keep each other safe.

Effective, consistent, and respectful communication is vital for the safety of our team. Every person is held accountable for giving and receiving safety-related feedback. The more we talk and think about safety, the safer we can work.
