Chad Hornberger

Q: What do you do here at Berg? What are your responsibilities?

A: I’m an operator, and I mainly work on the landfill crew. I run everything from a large excavator to a tracked skid loader and roller.

Q: How did you get into this industry? What was your career background before joining Berg?

A: I have always loved heavy equipment, ever since I was a kid. I started running tractors and small equipment growing up on a horse farm. It kind of snowballed from there, and I took the opportunity to learn and run any equipment I could.

My first job was as a carpentry and framing laborer. After that, I earned my Class A CDL and learned how to be a heavy equipment operator. I started running equipment full-time around 1999.

Q: What do you enjoy about your job? What matters most to you in your role?

A: I love running equipment and working with a great group of guys. It’s important that I do the best I can with whatever equipment I’m operating that day. Taking care of the equipment is a big deal for me.

Q: What do you value about being part of the Berg team?

A: I like that it’s a smaller family feel. It’s not like the huge companies where you are just a number, and you don’t even know who the owners really are.

Q: Is there a time you were especially proud of a project you worked on?

A: I don’t really have an answer for this one yet. My moment must still be coming!

Q: Who do you look up to in life?

A: My dad. He taught me how to work with my hands and how to have a good work ethic.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time?

A: I enjoy going to the mountains, hunting, shooting, and riding four-wheelers.
