After learning to drive a truck in the Marine Corps, Bob Thomas started working with a local landscaping outfit. As they grew, they moved into septic system installation, basements, and underground utilities. He completed his CDL in 1990 so that he could move all of the equipment for the company. Now he’s a truck driver for Berg.
One of the things Bob loves about truck driving is the freedom involved in doing his job. He’s told where to be and what material to pick up, but it’s up to him to figure out which quarry to go to and when to leave in order to arrive on time.
After 30 years in the industry, Bob is still learning. He had never worked in a landfill before Berg, and he has learned a lot about what goes into a final cap and moving a larger amount of material than he has in previous jobs.
His view on the construction trades? It’s hard work, for hard-working people, and you either like it or you don’t.
After spending time with family, Bob enjoys riding Harleys with his wife and collecting guns. According to Bob, one of the best parts about working for Berg is the sense of family. He knows that if he ever needed to take time off for the sake of loved ones, Berg would have his back.
